Roarockit at Lee Valley Booth

November 21, 2005

Lee Valley Tools invited us to show off our Thin Air Press system at this past weekend’s Toronto Woodworking Show. The event was highly successful for us mostly due to the Lee Valley staff. They set us up in the booth’s prime spot and let us talk, not only about our Thin Air Press kits but also about deckmaking and teaching skateboard making. Norah, Mark and I talked with hundreds, if not thousands of people about vacuum veneering and how easy it is to get into it. We attracted a lot of attention with my sculpture of 8 longboard kits made to look like a flower.
Thanks Lee Valley Tools for this great opportunity to show off our stuff!

Here are a couple of decks that Chris Gilstrap made using our pintail decks. Great looking shapes.

Nine Decks…sort of….

November 3, 2005

Here are some pics of decks that I have built using our pintail deck kit. With a little modification these decks stand out wherever I show them.

New Deck…RED is right.
I have been wanting to build a new shape using our kit and the stack of uncut veneers sitting in stock. Its been all work and no play lately so I decided to build a deck to ease the tension…working on this made me feel sane again.

The hardware is not attached yet and as I really dislike the standard 4 bolt holes in normal decks….look out.
I tried to make the deck a little wider than our pintail. Wanted to make it easy to ride. It sort of looks like a snowboard shape with a little camber and rocker happening.

I love black grip tape. It is so great to work with. Really loved working with it when I did the carbon pintail and cutout comic deck…so it was a treat to play around with it on this one.

Longboard Veneer in Stock

November 1, 2005

Here is a picture of the veneer we picked up a couple of weeks ago.
It is face stock, kiln dried, Canadian Hard maple. That means it is 99% knot free with virtually no blemishes.
There is also the odd piece with curly and birdseye grain.
The longrain sheets are 50.5″ x 13″. The crossgrain sheets 50.5″ x 11″. All the stock is 1/16″ thick.
It is primo skateboard building material for anyone into building their own decks. You will not be dissappointed with this material.
Here is a link to the veneer on our site.
